Based on true event, 'Dallas Buyers Club' tells the story of Texas cowboy Ron Woodroof, who in the mid 1980's was diagnosed as HIV positive and given just 30 days to live, determined to fight the disease he hunted down non prescription drugs both legal and illegal to prolong his life, and others, when he formed a 'club' which you were given the drugs, for a 'members fee'.
Yet again another astonishing performance from Mathew McConaughey, losing over 3 stone in weight to play Woodroof, he is barely recognisable from his usual Hollywood sex symbol status. To think this is an actor I couldn't stand, starring in one pathetic rom-com after another, to a guy who has put in consistently great performances in mature adult movies such as 'Mud', 'The Wolf Of Wall Street', 'Killer Joe' and 'The Lincoln Lawyer'. Also worth a mention is 30 Seconds To Mars front man Jared Leto making a welcome return to acting after a six year break, again almost unrecognisable as cross dresser Raynon. A movie with a fascinating story to tell from 1980s America made all the more watchable by two fabulous lead performances.
