Don Jon (2013)

Gordon Joseph-Levitt has been a favourite of mine since way back in his teens as Tommy in the brilliant 'Third Rock From The Sun' back in the day, and his acting career has seen some quality performances too ('50/50', 'Looper'. '500 Days Of Summer'), so it was with great excitement that his directing debut would be a "romantic" comedy drama about a smooth talking, good looking guy who's got everything, and gets anyone, but is obsessed with internet porn, who happens to pull "dime" Barbara Sugarman (played by Scarlett Johansson!) and Don Jon happily is a fine debut.

Smart, funny, crude and sexy (I sound like Heat magazine) GJL is supported by a great cast, Julianne Moore (always great) Scarlett is mesmerizing as usual, and unbelievably good looking in every scene, and casting Tony Danza as Don's uptight, white vest wearing Italian American foul mouthed Dad is a stroke of genius. The film is kind of split in two, Don's relationship with Barbara, then Esther (Julianne Moore) and with a running time of 90 minutes never flags or outstays it's welcome.

Excellent stuff.

A definite 'dime'
