How I Live Now (2013)
Saoirse Ronan plays Daisy, an American teen sent to live with cousins in the quaint English countryside, initially she rebels against her new surroundings and life, but slowly warms to her cousins and their lifestyle, this harmony is thrown into turmoil when terrorists launch a nuclear attack on London.
What starts off as a twee fish out of water drama soon becomes a mature post apocalyptic love story, the star of the show yet again is the hugely talented Ronan, she oozes screen presence in this bleak, finely acted WW3 drama.
Low key, the initial terrorist act is tactfully staged, animals sense danger, a chill wind blasts through the trees, then a chilling explosion in the far distance, radio reports order people to stay in doors, martial law ensues, this is a fine mature post nuclear drama.
