Like movies about attacks on The White House, 2013 sees two comedy releases about the end of the world, this and the much anticipated Frost/Pegg directed 'The Worlds End'.
The cast of 'This Is The End' play themselves (James Franco, Seth Rogan, Jonah Hill etc) trapped in a Hollywood house during a party when what seems to be an earthquake hits, soon they realise this is something far more sinister...
The movie hits the comedy spot well in the first half thick and fast, the actors playing themselves as obnoxious, self obsessed and mostly drug addled (James Franco and Emma Watson in a small part particularly amusing). Things do run out of steam a little towards the end, 20 minutes could have been trimmed from its slightly bloated run time, and the singalong finale is rather nauseating, but for the most part this is manic, crude funny stuff, from a fine cast that delivers the gags.
