Last years VHS was one of the surprises of the film year, I'd heard nothing about it, not read a single
review, watched it late one night and it blew me away, great stories, creepy, nasty uncompromising horror and one of the movies of 2012.So when a sequel was announced with some more big name genre director's (Hobo With A Shotgun) I was quite excited, then the early reviews came out and they were positive, talk about high expectations!
So we have the same premise, a bunch of short horror stories, all filmed POV, connected by a single story, this time time we get four shorts instead of five and the running time is half hour less....a leaner, meaner slice(s) of horror?
The complete opposite. The warning signs were up after just the first segment, a weak, ho-hum effort, all four stories are average to fairly good at a push, only two of the four hit the spot, (Zombie and cult group) but even these are substandard by its predecessors effort.
I cannot contain my disappointment, a friend text me the night before saying how poor it was, I refused to believe him, surely he's wrong, but no, a pale poor follow up, average stories, no scares, all the impending terror of the original drained away, easily one of the most disappointing sequels I can remember.
