Godzilla (2014)

It's the BIG ONE, the one we've all been waiting for, lets forget Roland Emmerich's monstrosity (no pun intended) from the late 90's starring Ferris Bueller, this one had potential, directed by lauded helmsman Gareth Edwards ('Monsters') and with a top leading cast of 'Breaking Bads' Bryan Cranston and Elizabeth Olsen, I was sure looking forward to seeing this monster mash.

The first hour builds up the tension, Japanese Nuclear testing, conspiracy theories, mysterious earthquakes, I'm on tender hooks to see the rampaging reptile, and finally he appears, well he's there someone in the darkness of the murky San Francisco skyline!

I was expecting destruction, devastation, 'Independence Day' style, I wanted to see the Golden Gate Bridge getting trampled on, cars tumbling into the Pacific below, all in daylight, but there's none of this. There's no fun, there's no sense of occasion, this is a monster movie, a disaster movie, yeah, I appreciate the more serious tone, but when the gloves are off, why couldn't we have some good old fashioned in your face destruction.

The disappointment of the year :(
