Yes it's an 80's style mismatched cop/buddy movie in the vein of classics such as 'Beverly Hills Cop' and 'Lethal Weapon'
By the book federal agent Ashburn (Sandra Bullock) is assigned to a case in Detroit to bring down a drugs kingpin, she's partnered with foul mouthed Mullins (Melissa McCarthy) who is anything but by the book, the only book she relates to is the phonebook she launches at a suspects face!
It has to be said McCarthys character is rather grating at first, foulmouthed, obnoxious, its hard to warm to her, but bare with it, once things calm down they make a great partnership, Bullock especially showing what a great comedy actress she can be.
Rude, crude and in your face, the thread bare plot is there so the gags and one liners can fly thick and fast, and the movie turns out to a very amusing Summer comedy, and far better than I was expecting, with a sweet finale.
