Evil Dead (2013)

Horror fans were (rightly) worried when it was announced that there would be a remake of Sam Raimi's seminal 1980's horror classic, especially when it would be by an unknown director, Fed Alvarez, and it would be his debut movie, so does he pull it off?

He sure does. It's visceral, bloody, in fact very bloody, nasty and creepy. Thankfully the cast aren't the usual US young, dumb and full of cum late teens or early 20's, interestingly the main character is a ex junkie going cold turkey. The visuals are great, no holds barred hard core ultra violence, especially the chainsaw finale, which Ash would have been proud of!!

Gruesome, brutal and pretty bloody good.
